Our Chipmunk pair are very busy collecting seed and peanuts and making runs to their stashes. This gal popped her head up when she noticed me getting ready to take her picture.
This Chipmunk gave me one of those "what are you looking at?" looks as I was watching her fill her cheeks with sunflower seeds. As you can see she was only halfway finished.
Despite the 12 inch snowfall the other day with drifts to 2 feet, Hoover is popping out of his den regularly. Here he is making an appearance through a ground level snow-covered bird feeder that gives him a little tent area to romp around in.
Our Chipmunks are now making daily appearances, coming out of their den for a snack. Cranberries are one of their favorites. This must be Hoover's girlfriend, her ears are intact.
I was very surprised when I saw our Chipmunk poke his head out of a hole in the snow yesterday. The warm weather must have wakened him. He enjoyed several forays around the area by the hole, and groomed himself a few times. "Hoover" (my pet name for him) is a real survivor. He has a notch out of the top of each ear and I have rescued him inside our house 3 times after our cat Phantom brought him in and released him.
This guy has now found a mate. They spend much of the day collecting and stashing sunflower seed, presumably to be handy for feeding the forthcoming baby chipmunks.
I put chunks of bread out for the Crows every morning. Today the Chipmunk discovered the pile of bread and helped himself. Then he went up on top of a brick pile to show off his prize as he ate it.

Our resident Chipmunk has been hibernating since early December when it got really cold. This morning he poked his head out of the old log in our backyard to see that it was snowing and blowing. He quickly decided to go back to his den.
This Chipmunk decided to try some weed seeds along the edge of our water garden pond. I don't think he found them as tasty as the sunflower seeds he normally eats.
This chipmunk has been caught by our cat Phantom and brought into our house 3 times (I have rescued him each time). He has a chunk of his ear missing to prove it. Lately he has managed to avoid the cat.
The baby chipmunks are all grown up and racing around the yard. The other day, our cat caught one, brought it in the house and let it go uninjured right in front of our dog. They both just lay there looking at it while I opened the front door and scooted it out.
I accidentally uncovered a chipmunk nest while I was moving some flat rocks in my front yard. It was a small tunnel totally lined with chewed tree leaves. A pile of sunflower seeds and peanuts were stashed at each end. The baby chipmunk was lying in the middle - his eyes not quite opening yet. After I got this shot, I carefully placed the rocks back over the nest.
One of our 2 chipmunks was racing around our water garden pond. Here he stopped to snack on a sunflower seed and do a quick face groom before moving on.
Our chipmunk has found a mate. The two of them are romping around our backyard playing. Their favorite perch is this log. In this shot, the male scooted down from the top of the log and nibbled the female on her side - then ran off. Guess that is a chipmunk courtship maneuver.
This is one of our chipmunk that came out of his den for the first time since early December. Today he was exploring all his favorite locations like this one where he suns himself and grooms.
