Now that the redwing blackbird babies have left the nests at our neighbor's pond, they are all coming to our place for food. This juvenile is begging for peanuts from mom.
It is easy to see why the second round of phoebe chicks are growing fast when they get fed large juicy portions like this. Mom and dad are making food runs all day long. I have to wait only about 5 minutes between feeding photo opportunities like this one.
From awhile back that I forgot to post. Dad bluebird is feeding a juvenile that has been out of the nest for about 5 days. I believe the second round of chicks are getting ready to leave the nest, so we will be seeing more scenes like this soon.
I believe this is the male catbird who is making regular runs with mealworms and serviceberries to their nest several hundred feet away in the woods edge. He takes mealworms when they are available and grabs serviceberries when they are not.
When I heard a hairy woodpecker arrive by our dining room the other day, I saw a juvenile with an adult female. She fed suet to the youngster several times during the 5 minute visit.
When I visited the flicker nest tree yesterday, the female was at the nest feeding chicks. You can just barely see a little beak at the left side of the hole. I'll be keeping a daily watch now as they mature.
