This Scrub Jay managed to find all the peanuts my grandson Colin tossed in among the pine needles in my daughter's backyard in Monterey, CA. Photo taken Fall 2009.

My grandson Colin had distributed some un-shelled peanuts around my daughter's backyard. This Scrub Jay would happily gather them one at a time and go stash them somewhere else. He would chase the Steller's Jay out of the yard when there were still peanuts on the ground.

Scrub Jays are very common on the west coast. This one quickly figured out that I was visiting my daughter and tossing seed into the backyard with the help of my 3 year old grandson Colin.
