We have lots of juvenile bluejays recently out of the nest that are begging incessantly for the adults to feed them. This one got a bit damp during a rain shower.
I had never seen juvenile grackles until 2 of them showed up in our front yard the other day. The parents have been around all summer, so it didn't surprise me when their offspring arrived. It was very hot - this one was panting to cool itself.
This juvenile bluebird landed in the branch of a serviceberry tree with its wings hung up in the leaves. It didn't seem to mind as it calmly reached for berries.
Despite our best efforts to discourage the house sparrows from nesting, we failed. The male was done in by the neighbor's cat, but the female continued to feed three chicks on her own.
This cute juvenile male downy woodpecker hung around our backyard almost all day yesterday. It spent time pecking on all the perches in the backyard and front yard.
Nearby where a male common yellowthroat was singing, I heard a second chirping sound. It was a juvenile yellowthroat wanting to be fed. It would alternate chirping and fluttering its wings.
Mom and juvenile hairy were in together for the first time yesterday morning. This is a shot of the juvenile hairy. It has sort of a clueless, innocent look to it.
This juvenile female purple finch comes into the feeder area all by itself now. It is still a bit hesitant though about approaching while other birds are present. While it looks similar to a house finch, it has an eye stripe which a house finch doesn't have.
