Male Goldfinch in Breeding Color Print E-mail

We now have 6 goldfinches enjoying the thistle seed at the feeder areas.  This male is almost finished molting to his breeding color except for a small spot on his head.

Almost to Full Winter Plummage Print E-mail

Ths male goldfinch is mostly transitioned to his winter plummage, but there is still a hint of summer yellow around his throat area.

Dark Eyed Junco Molting Print E-mail

Every year in late summer, we see one or two juncos who have lost their dark tail feathers, exposing the white feathers underneath.  Within about 6 weeks, the dark feathers grow back to cover up the normally hidden white tail feathers.
