March 12, 2010 - New Spring Arrivals |
|

After a period of very warm days, the first signs of spring arrived yesterday.
Twelve Red-winged Blackbirds and two Grackles spent most of the day in the trees around our yard and snacked on sunflower seeds. Two dozen Robins were pecking for worms in our horse pastures. I heard a Bluebird in the backyard, then saw it fly to the top of a tall tree along the edge of our woods. Today a pair of House Finches stopped by to ground feed for a few minutes before moving on.
The female Cardinal is tapping on our kitchen windows trying to chase away an intruder (her reflection). Cardinals, Chickadees, and Flickers continue their territory calls. Last night a pair of Barred Owls carried on a lengthy discussion in our back woods.
