March 21, 2010 - Male Bluebird Finds a Mate |
A dozen Black-headed Cowbirds (6 males and 4 females) arrived 2 days ago. Normally the females show up a week after the males, but this year the group showed up together.
When I looked out at the mealworm feeder around five o'clock today, I was elated to see a female Bluebird. The male has been singing in the treetops all week. Usually it takes several weeks for a female to arrive. It has been less than a week since he arrived.
A second Song Sparrow showed up today, and the pair are already singing and chasing each other all over the yard.
About 30 Cedar Waxwings perched in our willow tree out front again. Some would fly toward the house, but then turn around and fly away. I was hoping they would come in and drink at our water garden streams that are now running.
