Frosty Junco - February 15, 2015
The windchill was -30 yesterday with constant 25-35 MPH winds and blowing snow. I felt so bad for the birds having to survive this awful weather. I put seed out 3 times yesterday to help them get enough energy to stay warm.

Hudsonian Godwit Foraging - December 16, 2014
I noticed a pair of Hudsonian Godwits quite a way out in the shallows at Chincoteague Wildlife Reserve. Their primary identifying feature is the long pink and black bill. They feed by probing the bottom rapidly with their long bill.

Glossy Ibis Feeding #1 - November 10, 2014
There were a pair of Glossy Ibises feeding in the main pool at Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. One was behind a thick patch of reeds. This one was mostly out in the open, probing the surface with its long beak.

This photo of our solar electric panels installed on our south facing roof along with our 2 solar hot water panels was taken from our barn roof. It is nice to see our net meter showing that we are producing more than we are using.

Mink Wrestling with Catch - December 29, 2013
I was with a group doing a Christmas bird count when we saw this Mink wrestling a large fish about 50 feet off the shore of the Susquehanna River. He finally managed to kill the fish and wanted to bring it to shore right in front of us.
Male Black Duck - November 6, 2013
This is one of six Black Ducks that were swimming among the grasses along the edge of a pond at Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware. I managed to catch this one just before he disappeared behind the high grass.

Male & Female Ravens Touch Beaks - December 30, 2012 - Video Attached
My guess is that this beak touch was a courtship gesture. I wish they had chosen a more photogenic location for this ritual.
Junco with Snowy Beak - February 11, 2011 - Video Attached
The Juncos like to find white millet seeds that I toss into the snow. With the warm spell the snow is wet and sticky, so this female Junco got quite a snowy beak in the process.

Lion's Mane Mushroom - September 17, 2017
I had no idea such an ornate mushroom existed. This dramatic plume was growing on a rotting tree that was once sprayed by the DEC with yellow paint to mark a private property boundary.

Dagger - September 9, 2017
Dagger is Scarlett's brother, also a Russian Blue kitten. He kept clawing my foot as he was wrestling with the fleece on my moccasin, so I took it off for him to play with.

One of the youngsters scooted underneath Mom and grabbed a piece of watermelon rind. Then he raised his nose to air scent as if to celebrate before eating it.
Young Raccoon Arrives - August 29, 2017
The first Raccoon to arrive tonight was one of the youngsters. As he climbed up onto the buffet table, he stopped to air scent like a dog would. So cute!
Young Raccoon at Feeder Log - August 22, 2017
Mom Raccoon and her three youngsters are now nightly visitors. This young raccoon is eating shelled peanuts I tossed into a hole in the top of this log.
Evening Buffet for Raccoons - August 22, 2017
Normally much of this would go in the garbage, but it is primo Raccoon food: stale marshmallows, cantaloupe rinds, corn cobs, corn kernels, peanuts, sunflower seed. The marshmallows got eaten first.
2nd Young Raccoon Dining in Woodpecker Hole - August 22, 2017
The 1st young raccoon would not share the top of the log, so the 2nd Raccoon went after the peanuts I tossed into the woodpecker hole on the side of the log.
Skunk Takes Offense - July 10, 2017
As the Raccoon moved closer into the Skunk's space, the Skunk turned it's hind end as a warning and made a threatening sound. I was sure the Raccoon was about to get sprayed in the face.
