This male American Kestrel was one of the stars in a presentation of The Raptor Project by Jonathan Wood. He seemed to like having his picture taken. Still trying to get one like this in the wild.
This afternoon I tossed more sunflower seeds into the snow on our holly bush because it was so cold and windy. The Blue Jays like to hunt for the seeds in the snow. This gal plucked one out and showed off her find.
When it started to snow and blow hard this afternoon, lots of birds flew in for a quick snack to warm up. This Tree Sparrow was one of the first to arrive. We still have 8 regular Tree Sparrow visitors.
On a frozen section of the Cannonsville Reservoir east of Hancock, NY our birding group got to see Bald Eagles feasting on a deer carcass. Sometimes deer trying to cross a frozen section get stuck when a leg or 2 goes through the ice. Two adults ate first, then these 3 immature Eagles got to share the leftovers. The Eagle on the right is starting to show some adult white feathers on top of his head.
This was the second immature Bald Eagle that we saw perched in a tree by the side of the road along the Cannonsville Reservoir. He was keeping a very close eye on me.
White-Breasted Nuthatch Hand Feeding - Amherst Island

A White-breasted Nuthatch had been watching the Chickadees feed out of our hands for about 10 minutes. He would come out to the end of a tree branch and look down at Jeff's hand, trying to get up the nerve to drop down and get a seed. Jeff extended his hand further away from his body. That provided the additional comfort zone the Nuthatch needed. He quickly swooped down and moved around on Jeff's fingers for several seconds before grabbing a seed.
