A pair of Field Sparrows showed up the day before we got 2 inches of heavy wet snow. I sprinkled extra white millet seed on the ground that morning. All the ground feeding Sparrows and Juncos really appreciated it.
This past Friday I saw a flock of about 20 Cedar Waxwings perched in trees next to Brick Pond in Owego, NY. I was able to use a large tree as cover to sneak up on them.
As this Gray Fox entered the neighbor's yard next to my daughter's backyard, he stopped to look at me through the fence. Then he quickly moved out into a sunny area where I could see all of him.
This Osprey was out of range of my lens when he dove into the water. He struggled to get airborne as he came up with this 2 foot long fish. Two seagulls immediately started harassing him. Trying to avoid them, he turned directly toward me flying close to the water.
While staying at my daughter's house in Virginia Beach, we saw a Gray Fox in several of the neighbor's yards over a 3 day period. The last day we were there, he came wandering through her front yard and into her next door neighbor's sunny yard. When he heard the click of my camera, he turned his head to see where the noise was coming from. I suspect the vixen is in the den nursing kits and he is out hunting food for her.
This male Junco was posing nicely for me on our viburnum bush in front of our house. It looks like we will be having about 12 Juncos staying for the summer. The other 40+ have migrated north.
