Blue-winged Teal Pair - April 7, 2011

This Blue-winged Teal pair were dabbling in the shallow water along the shore line at Stewart Park in Ithaca, NY. The male is in his breeding plumage. These small ducks migrate as far as 7,000 miles between their breeding and wintering grounds. They winter along the southern US coasts and into Mexico. Their breeding grounds stretch across the northern US states and well up into Canada.
