Female Red-bellied Woodpecker Arrives with Food - June 12, 2009
I had my camera and tripod set up along the bank of the Susquehanna river across from Hiawatha Island trying to photograph Bald Eagles. For over an hour I periodically heard a Red-bellied Woodpecker above and behind me, but could not figure out where it was. Finally I tracked a bird flying straight at me from across the river. It was the Red-bellied Woodpecker and she landed on a tree trunk right above me that had been obscured by leaves.
