Female Flicker at Nest Hole - June 7, 2011

3 years ago, Flickers nested in the top of this tree. That section of the tree blew down in a heavy wind storm 2 years ago. So this year the Flickers excavated another nest below the section that blew down. They like this tree because the wood is very soft and easy to chip away chunks. This is the female arriving at the nest. She was keeping a cautious eye on me.
